Why Hillsgreen:
Growing up in a farming family and working on farms myself, I’ve always had a passion for agriculture. I wasn’t completely sure which direction I wanted to take with my career, so I decided to broaden my search – and that’s when I came across Hillsgreen.
I’d seen Hillsgreen’s social media and website and was really interested in the work they were doing. I knew I wanted to stay connected to agriculture, and the way Hillsgreen works with and promotes farming and rural businesses really stood out to me.
Monday – Getting to Know Agency Life:
My first morning started with a tour of the office and an introduction to the team, before chatting with Anna and Ash about what I’d be getting involved with throughout the week.
I then had the chance to sit in on sales, whole-team, Client Success and Marketing meetings. It was interesting to see how the different teams communicate, share ideas and work together to get the best results for their clients.
I also spoke to Meg about what it’s like to complete a degree apprenticeship at Hillsgreen and how she balances working with university, which gave me another perspective on the different career routes available.
In the afternoon, I put some of what I’d learnt into practice by researching brands Hillsgreen hasn’t worked with before and identifying businesses I thought could be a good fit for the agency.
Tuesday – Clients and Content:
|
On Tuesday morning, I sat in on a client call and saw first-hand how important good communication is between an agency and its clients. I also joined Anna and Andrew for review meetings, which showed me how much attention to detail goes into making sure activity is performing and clients are happy. |

The afternoon gave me the chance to get behind the camera. I filmed members of the Hillsgreen team sharing their top tips from their different areas of expertise – while also capturing plenty of footage for an outtakes video! |
Wednesday – Out on the Farm:
|
Wednesday was one of my favourite days of the week, as I headed to a farm in Macclesfield with Anna and Meg for a Beef Shorthorn content shoot. |

I helped with filming and captured behind-the-scenes content for Hillsgreen’s social channels. I really enjoyed seeing how different a day working at a marketing agency can look – especially when it involves getting out of the office and back onto a farm. Back at the office, I researched current trends and conversations within the agricultural and rural sectors before filming some more Hillsgreen content. I finished the day helping Ash prepare the 2027 content calendar, updating the previous calendar with the correct dates for the year ahead. |
Thursday – Learning More About Digital Marketing:
Thursday started with finishing off some of the content I’d been working on earlier in the week, including the team’s top tips video.
After lunch, I helped Jay create clips from video content for a client, making sure I selected the right sections to use.
Later in the afternoon, Rob gave me an introduction to Google Ads and explained more about how paid search works. This was completely new to me, so it was really useful to learn more about another area of digital marketing.
Friday – Finishing Up:
On my final day, I worked on editing photos for Hillsgreen’s social media and writing the accompanying caption.
I also helped snag Hillsgreen’s new website, looking through it for any edits or changes that needed to be made before finishing off any outstanding tasks from the week.
My week ended with a handover meeting with Chloe and Meg, where we looked back at what I’d worked on and learnt during my time with the team.
What I Learnt:
Throughout the week, I learnt a lot about marketing, rural businesses, advertising and content creation.
One of the biggest things I took away was how much thought and work goes into delivering for every client. From planning and reviewing activity to communicating with clients and creating content, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes.
I also saw how Hillsgreen combines marketing with its understanding of farming and the wider rural sector. The team keeps up with the events, trends and conversations affecting the industry, which was something I really enjoyed learning more about.
Would I Recommend Coming Into The Hillsgreen Office For Work Experience?
Definitely. If you’re interested in agriculture but aren’t sure what career you’d like to pursue, work experience at Hillsgreen gives you the chance to try lots of different things.
In just one week, I got involved in everything from meetings and research to social media, Google Ads and an on-farm content shoot.
Having never worked in marketing or even in an office before, I came away with lots of new skills and a much better understanding of what working in a rural marketing agency is actually like.
My Week In The Hillsgreen Office:
|
I really enjoyed my week at Hillsgreen and getting involved in so many different sides of the business. My favourite part was definitely the content shoot and capturing some of the behind-the-scenes footage. I also really liked how varied every day was and how the team can have a laugh together while still getting the job done and delivering for their clients. |

A massive thank you to everyone at Hillsgreen for being so welcoming and taking the time to explain what they do and teach me new skills. I’ve learnt a lot in just one week and would definitely recommend Hillsgreen to anyone looking to gain some experience and find out more about a career in marketing. |
