From Horses to Hillsgreen

Hi, I’m Lucy and I’ve recently joined the Hillsgreen team as Business Development Manager. I’m excited to start this new chapter and get to know the fantastic businesses and people that make the agricultural and rural sector such a unique place to work.

Growing up in the countryside and owning horses meant a career in the rural industry always felt like the natural path for me. I studied BSc Equine Science at Reaseheath College, where I combined my passion for horses with a growing interest in the wider rural sector.

Alongside my studies, I worked at an equine rehabilitation yard where care, dedication and attention to detail were at the heart of everything we did. It was hard work, but incredibly rewarding. Working closely with owners, vets and farriers showed me the importance of building trusted relationships and working together to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Discovering a Passion for Business Development

After graduating, my career took me into equestrian retail. I started on the shop floor before progressing to Store Manager of a busy equestrian retailer.

During that time, I helped guide the store through its acquisition by a much larger business. It opened the door to opportunities I hadn’t expected, from supporting other stores and wider business projects to seeing first-hand how a national retailer operates behind the scenes.

It was during this time that I realised how much I enjoyed the commercial side of the business. Building relationships, understanding customer needs and identifying opportunities for growth became the parts of my role I enjoyed the most.

Bringing That Experience into Agriculture

My next role as Area Sales Manager for an equine and smallholder nutrition company strengthened that even further.

Every day involved working closely with businesses and customers, understanding their challenges and helping find the right solutions. It confirmed that relationship-building is what I enjoy most and ultimately led me towards business development.

I’ve spent much of my career working with people who genuinely care about the industries they work in, and that’s exactly what stood out to me about Hillsgreen.

The team’s passion for agriculture and rural businesses is obvious, and I was drawn to the opportunity to work with businesses that are helping drive the sector forward.

I’m looking forward to getting to know our clients, understanding their ambitions and helping connect them with the marketing support that will make the biggest difference to their business.

Outside of Work

When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me outdoors.

I have horses and dogs, so much of my spare time is spent at the yard, out walking or simply enjoying being in the countryside. I also love catching up with friends whenever I can.

For me, there’s nothing better than spending time outdoors with good company and plenty of animals.

Looking Ahead

Joining Hillsgreen feels like the perfect next step in my career. It brings together everything I enjoy: building relationships, supporting rural businesses and working within an industry I’m genuinely passionate about.

I’m excited to meet our clients, learn more about their businesses and help them uncover new opportunities for growth. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
