As you might have seen from our blog post last month, we recently got the really exciting news that we’d been shortlisted for the regional finals of The Rural Business Awards, in the Professional Services category.
And then at the awards ceremony, we even more great news too…
RUNNER-UP, as one of the best rural businesses in the North!
We knew we were up against some very tough competition, shortlisted against some fantastic other professional service businesses – including accountants, lawyers, property agents, interior designers and many more.
So we were just planning on attending the ceremony and having a great time, swapping our wellies and tractors for bow ties and cocktail dresses.
There were four of us from Hillsgreen Marketing Consultants, and we shared a table with four of the Heaton House Farm team, which was really great.
After a great champagne reception and a delicious 3 course meal at The Last Drop Village in Bolton, it was time for the awards presentation.
5 awards in, it was time for the Best Professional Services category.
And we couldn’t believe it when the Hillsgreen name was announced across the room as runner-up, in what was a very tough, competitive category.
A lot of business awards are simply places for industry insiders to pat each other on the back and just add another title to their email signatures to show off.
But we don’t work like that in the rural world. We’re honest and down-to-earth, and we take things like this really seriously.
The Rural Business Awards really are a great thing for our entire industry, because they recognise just how important and how diverse rural and agricultural businesses are – and how much they contribute to local, regional and national economies.
There are none of these secret handshakes or special favours!
In fact, the judging process for the RBA’s is really comprehensive, with a wide range of judges who mark each entrant individually, and then anonymous oversight by Amazon.com judges to choose the final winners.
The Northern region also included all of North England, North Wales, and even all of Scotland. So it really was amazing to just be shortlisted – let alone named runner-up!
After the awards had finished – and we’d had all those obligatory photos taken with our award – we got to celebrating, chatting with all the other rural businesses in attendance.
And it was amazing to hear all of their stories and learn about their businesses. There are so many great rural businesses out there, with so much to offer – from falconry and hand-made preserves, to natural fillings for mattresses and farmyard pre-school nurseries.
We met some incredible people and heard about some fantastic businesses. And we can’t wait to see how we might be able to help some of them in the near future.
So watch this space!
And congratulations, once again, to all the finalists and winners in the Rural Business Awards 2018.
