Growing up all I wanted to be was a pilot, specifically, flying fighter jets in the RAF. I mean how cool would that be? Maybe it was the speed, or the fascination with these incredible machines…more likely, I just watched Top Gun on repeat too often. Either way it is safe to say that is not why I am now working with the team at Hillsgreen!
Where did it start?
In all honesty, I fell into Agriculture when I had just left college. I wanted to earn my own money, and had nothing planned for the summer when a friend said, “why don’t you come and drive a tractor with me for the summer?”. That was it, I went and drove a tractor for a summer season on an arable farm in North Norfolk and, quite honestly, fell in love with it.
In fact, I was so enamored by Agriculture I decided to go in feet first and enrolled at Harper Adams University, leaving with a degree in Agriculture with Mechanisation.
Then the journey really started, I did several years on farms around the south and south east working on large arable units, pig farms and beef units. I really enjoyed it. But going back to the introduction to this blog, my real passion came in the form of machinery.
A bit about my career
With that I started my career in the world of sales and marketing at Caterpillar. Responsible for the Backhoe Loader product built in Leicester. I provided marketing, sales support and training for the Caterpillar dealer network in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. I mean that’s pretty cool, right?
I really enjoyed my time working at Caterpillar and latterly spent time working on promoting their products and services to the Agricultural industry in Northern Europe. This was great, I’d gone back to my roots and first passion, Agriculture.
With that it was time for a change and having just married my wife who was from Staffordshire originally, we decided to head west and settled in Cheshire. It was a great opportunity for me to get fully immersed in the Agricultural industry again.
By this time, I had established that my real skill and satisfaction came in the form of Agri marketing. Most recently I worked as a Marketing manager for the John Deere dealership based in the North West and South West Scotland, Cornthwaite Group.
Well, that’s a whistle stop summary of the last decade, but the fundamentals are that I have two things going for me as a person:
- I’m passionate about the Agricultural industry and all things rural.
- I love connecting potential customers with great brands and businesses.
As it happens so are Hillsgreen and here I am. Marketing Strategist for Hillsgreen. I know I know, “great title but, what does that mean?” – I hear you ask.
In a nutshell, I’m here to use my knowledge of digital marketing and experience of being sat in the seat you’re in. I am here to support Hillsgreen and you to develop robust and successful strategies to achieve your business goals. Ultimately, helping to connect you with new customers and build even stronger relationships with existing ones.
