A little bit about me!

Hi, I’m Eleri and I am one month into my new role at Hillsgreen as a Digital Marketing Executive.

Originally from the hills of Denbighshire, North Wales, farming has always been a big part of my life. With one side of the family involved in upland beef and sheep, the other from a dairy background, and the parent’s beef and sheep farm (with the odd pig and goat from time to time) it’s safe to say my life has always revolved around farming.

Although I’ve had some weird and wonderful career ideas over the years (from a racing car driver to a  teacher) in the back of my mind I have always known the agricultural sector is the place for me.

Whilst at agricultural college the tenancy ended on the family farm and I found myself working on a local upland sheep farm in my spare time as the family business moved towards machinery dealing and wool collection.

Thinking that consultancy was the career for me I headed off to the big wide world of uni and studied BSc Agriculture with Farm Business Management at Harper Adams University. After 2 years I realised that maybe farm consultancy wasn’t for me and found myself gravitating towards the marketing modules instead.

Placement year took me to the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) working in the marketing department on the digital side of things… and going to the odd event here and there of course.

Sadly my time at the RWAS was cut short due to Covid-19 and I found myself back at home for lockdown No. 1. Instead of baking and home workouts, I returned to a local dairy farm I had previously worked on as a relief milker, which I then continued to do around lectures during my fourth year.

Graduation came and I decided to become a full-time relief milker, milking across several farms on the Wales/England border, and even dabbling in a bit of gritting work throughout the winter.

After over a year of milking cows, I decided to return to the marketing world… and here I am, one month in at Hillsgreen. Although you can still find me in the parlour in my spare time.

What do I bring to Hillsgreen…

I bring a wide knowledge of the beef, sheep and dairy industry to the team along with my previous experience working for a large agricultural society I’d like to think I know a thing or two about agriculture.
